Having time of...

looks something like this, when it comes to me. I enjoy the originality of things I am unable to do when busy during school time, weekends are often too short and a week off, is what usually saves me!

Lately there have been these visiting us, still with a bit of autumn mood,... Although now the autumn seems to be gone as the snow has come in places, gone again, and main arrive in near future back again.

I feel like boiling some water for a cup of apple cinamon tea, wrapping myself up in knitted sweaters and scarfs, hiding from the cold, and enjoying my time. 

An apple cake smelling in the back, does not sound bad, does it?

If you want to study design, you do not have to do it

After last weeks studio lesson, I knew what to expect next. We were told there would be the drawing of nudes coming up. I did not really think about it, although everyone seemed to have questioned be throughout the week about how I feel about what is coming up. I felt relaxed and looked forward to what would happen next, eventhough it was my first time to draw a nude.

This was the first sketch. 20 minutes of work, the proportions were bad, the head was too big and the legs were too short. I knew, there was nothing good to come. All I could do was to leave this and start another one...and hope it will be better. 

The second nude was a big better, my proportions improved. Some of her body parts were too thick or too narrow, the head was too small. 

I am completely in love with this one. As soon as the model settled down I was inspired and could not wait to get started. The pony tail was as if a cherry on the cake. I loved the pose and all that I was helped with was her leg which was sticking out a little in the left. I love the shading of the back, the texture of the pony tail, the backbone shading and simply the whole piece.

The last one was not so effective, but still it was good to work with proportions and improve. I could use the method of splitting the picture into segments depending on the size of her head.

What I have to say, is that this workshop was again something completely different which is a tradition for the studio as it seems. We had an outside lecturer coming in to work with us, again I could get to know a new kind of attitude and explore further. What happened was that he asked me, for how manyth time I was doing it, and my reply saying first was followed by his thumbs up and a smile. It simple made my day. It is the admiration that counts.

Friday there was no still life waiting for us...

I walked into the studio and what I was expecting to be there, was not there.

I sat down as did the others and I wondered what would happen. 

Suddenly we were told there would come a model and we would be drawing...not an act. 

But a lady in various unexpected positions and the time limit would be short. And in fact it was. You had to act, go for it and not waste time. 

Use various media and portray what struck you the most.

I was shocked a bit at first but in the end I enjoyed it a lot!

After the session I was filled with passion and great amout of positive energy.

I was sitting there on the bridge...

 I drove my bike around the city a little, to see where I could settle down and draw, a composition based on the theme city. I drove through streets, by trees and  as I got onto the bridge, it struck me. I locked by bike, took out my papers and sat on the bitumen floor.

I sat there, in the middle of the pathway...

 I knew, there would be many faces which would stare at me, some with the sense of appreciation, others with misunderstanding. Many cyclists passed by and I felt they were very close to falling of their bikes, little children were pulled away by their busy mums, others expressed appreciation in the form of quite talk behind my back. I could here some wows there and then-in reality. The adorable faces of appreciation made me smile. A young lady walked passed and shared a smile too. Some, found me as an entertainment while waiting for the green lights. But what struck me the most, was a 10 years old boy, who came up to me, and asked whether I am selling my work. When his question was followed by a negative reply, his face went sad and he walked off with dissapointment. 

As he walked off, I was tempted to run after him and give him the sketch. 

He was not afraid to ask and take a closer look...shame adults sometimes rather choose to stare.

I have to be honest though. I would not be able to do this in my small hometown. I would not have the courage to go out there. In a bigger city I can hide and be anonymous. I feel more free and open in doing the unusual.

I told you, it made me tick

I got the the end, and here is what came out of it. 

Politics and Art made me react to the era my parents and siblings had to go through, the things they had to suffer as according to some. They did not have the freedom, they had to go with the crowd. They were not allowed what they wanted to do, they could not wear what they wanted to...and today they always refer to the line:

'Oh, if I had the chances you have at your age, everything would have been different.'

I value the fact I get to express myself, be me and therefore I would like to express it through this T-shirt.

All I will say is: 

'Thanks I get to be my kind of original'.

Fisheye summer

Lomo has become a part of our family. It is precious and ussually used only on special occasions :) These are great memories of this year's summer, which has been very lively, joyful and memorable.

Since I also use a Zenit TTL camera, I shot some photos with it throughout the summer. The film was a bit suspicious, cause it allowed me to take about 50 and still would not come to and end. It turned out, I lost about 30 photos since the length of the film was only 24 pictures. Therefore, thanks to FishEye, I have at least there visual memories.

Naive, is one of them...

Of what? Of my characteristics. 

I thought the cabbage would be gone by this Friday but it wasn't. Which was both a positive and a negative surprise at first. Another 3.5 hours of focusing at it... but this time I was able to use colour! :)

As he said, from the beginning it looked 'kiepsko' but in the end it turned out good. He concluded that we shall always fight till the end and I nodding in agreement.

I have to say, I felt uncertain at first, the sketch was not great, but I slowly got passionate about it and made it into this.

When comes a weekend and I enter the world of crafts...

This is what usually the outcome is. They simple take a life of their own, they start up their own journey, they further develop the stories to which me and my sister have given an introduction. They allow to free my feelings, let out my memories, further tell the stories of each of the components-the buttons, ribbons, fabrics-just get a new direction to their life.

3,5 hours of focusing on a cabbage...

...ended up like this. Shame this week it was not a turn to work with paint. The colour combinations fascinated me, since one of my favourites is green, white and fuchsia. 

The view point I am taught is to look at a composition from the viewpoint of horizontal and vertical lines as well as areas of colour, in this case greys. The aim is not to focus at it as a combination of single separate objects, but one whole. Therefore it is new, teaches me a new viewpoint. It is not about exactly drawing up what you see in front of you as you see it in reality, since photographs can do the job for us, it is about creating a personal, creative opinion of it.

 Crossing the borders and sketching outside the outlines is allowed.

Steal some time for yourself...

I am quite afraid, when it comes to stealing time for myself...

I think I should stood up to all the workload at times and take a break. From time to time I do, and this is what comes out. Preliminary sketches for a future 'study' in acrylic paint. The task is to make 3 sets of 8 pictures under the topic of 'scenery'.

The result of my 45 minutes of mixing the paint,layering it on paper, and repeating it again and again.

The leftover of paint just fascinated me too much that I could not let them be washed away dow the sink... this is what came out of them.

After I had enought fun, there came the washing. 

And all the colour vanished...

P.S.: While I was sketching this a young couple came about and started to do a photoshoot. I can't tell which one of us stared at the other more. Me? Them? :)

Promises are coming true...

First two classes passed, drawing and painting took part. The results...here they come.

Painting was a lot of joy to do, having the ability to mix colours and layer them on top of one another in order to achieve effects. These are the raw outlines but I already feel that the harmony within the colors has been created. Looking for the next session. 

Shame I managed to only shoot the painting. It is not finished, not perfect. It is work

in progress. Small steps need to be taken in order to achieve big things!
